As part of its programs and initiatives in the field of Corporate Sustainability, aiming to develop and establish concepts and practices and inspire future generations to adopt them to achieve a green economy and build a sustainable future for the next generation; Zain Jordan continued its efforts during the year 2023 in this field through its corporate sustainability programs and initiatives, which have become a model to be followed in the region.

Zain Jordan was among the first companies in the region to prioritize environmental protection and address the impacts of climate change. Through the implementation of several practices serving the environmental sector and aiming to mitigate the effects on this vital sector and take measures to contribute to addressing the causes of pollution, the company signed a cooperation agreement with the Jordan Electric Power Company (JEPCO) and electricity distribution companies (EDCO) to shift to alternative energy sources through equipment used in all its stations, aiming to reduce carbon emissions by 90% to contribute to achieving zero carbon emissions.

Additionally, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Environment to adopt sustainable solutions that contribute to addressing the issue of random waste disposal and forest fires, which have become significant challenges to our ecosystem and its various elements. This is in line with promoting the implementation of sustainable development goals, especially goal six: clean water and sanitation, goal twelve: responsible consumption and production, and goal thirteen: climate action.

Continuing its efforts to address water challenges in the kingdom, Zain Jordan provided support for the 17th consecutive year to the national remote water quality monitoring project conducted by the Royal Scientific Society, by providing data transmission lines and Real Static IP service to 13 stations including Yarmouk River, Jordan River, King Abdullah Canal, Zarqa River, King Talal Dam, and Kafrein Dam.

Moreover, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with the “Himma W Lamma” initiative — Towards a Cleaner Jordan — to collaborate on raising public awareness about the importance of preserving the environment and cleanliness in public, tourist areas, forests, and parks in the kingdom.

In its continued efforts to support Jordanian farmers, promote biodiversity, and food security, within its participation in the Green Caravan project in collaboration with the Arab Society for Nature Conservation, Zain planted 1,500 trees, including both deciduous and fruit trees, in three farms in the Ghor Fifa area in the southern Jordan Valley in Karak Governorate, in the environmental park in Ruseifa in Zarqa Governorate, in Jerash Governorate, and in the capital Amman, Jizeh area, reaching a total of 14,500 trees planted by the company.

Additionally, the company installed drip irrigation networks totaling 12,800 meters in three farms in the Ghor Fifa area in the southern Jordan Valley in Karak Governorate, to contribute to preserving the ecosystem and achieving water security by raising awareness about improving irrigation practices.

With a significant focus on the healthcare sector in the kingdom and a commitment to contribute to its development, Zain Jordan supported the rehabilitation, development, and equipping of the comprehensive Princess Basma Health Center in the Ras Al Ain area of Amman, in collaboration with the Hemtna initiative, with funding amounting to 220,000 JDs.

Zain’s free mobile clinic for children continued to provide comprehensive free healthcare services through periodic tours and field visits organized throughout the year to villages and less fortunate areas in the kingdom. This year, more than 3,000 children benefited from its services, surpassing the total number of children benefiting from the clinic’s services since its launch in 2002 to 253,000 children to date.

Furthermore, Zain renewed its strategic partnership agreement with the Vocational Training Corporation for the 15th year to fund the establishment and equipping of training centers in the corporation’s branches, continuing to offer free training courses in the specialties of electronic gaming devices maintenance, cellular devices maintenance, and optical fiber networks maintenance, facilitating youth entry into the job market and opening new opportunities for them to secure new and sustainable jobs.

Zain renewed its agreement with the Queen Rania Award for Excellence in Education for the 10th year, continuing its exclusive support from the telecommunications sector for the Queen Rania Award for Excellence in Education ceremony. Additionally, the company renewed its support for the Future Trust Fund for Orphans for the twelfth consecutive year, contributing to providing a better future for orphaned young men and women after leaving care homes.

In partnership with the Loyac Foundation, Zain renovated and rehabilitated the Al-Qistal Mixed Basic School in the Jizeh area, making it the seventh school qualified under this partnership. Additionally, for the sixth consecutive year, the company continues to support the Banat Connect program for educating refugee and displaced women in Jerash camp by providing free internet services for participating women.

Continuing its ongoing efforts to empower youth by creating sustainable job opportunities, within the partnership with the Ministries of Planning and International Cooperation, and Labor, Zain inaugurated a customer service call center in the Vocational Training Corporation in Madaba Governorate. Through this initiative, Zain provided 13 sustainable job opportunities for 13 young men and women from the governorate.

Prioritizing women’s empowerment in all fields and platforms, Zain annually launches and supports exceptional programs and inspiring initiatives to support and empower women in various fields. For the third consecutive year, the company launched the Women In Tech program targeting university students majoring in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines.

Additionally, for four consecutive years, through its innovation platform ZINC in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund, the company held training workshops titled “Me and My Mobile” for women with limited access from Amman and the provinces, aiming to contribute to digital literacy for girls.

In alignment with International Women’s Day, Zain Jordan, in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund, launched an awareness campaign named “Safe Spaces” to raise awareness about cyber violence and ways to prevent it, ensuring digital rights and privacy for women in their online interactions.

To further the policy of social inclusion and affirm the principle of equal opportunities, in line with the tenth goal “Reducing Inequalities,” Zain launched several initiatives to serve its efforts in empowering all members of society, removing obstacles, and facilitating access. In a pioneering move, the company made mobile phone subscription contracts available in sign language, becoming the first telecommunications company in the region to provide this service for subscribers with hearing and visual impairments.
